OK..so for those of you who know me, you know how important my family is to me. I am first and foremost a child of the Living God. Next I am proud to be Dan's wife, Sarah, Zach and Ben's mom and Kayleigh's Gigi (grandma). Included in this family are my two dogs, Biszmark (black) and Musket (tan). They are Yorkshire Terriers (with a little bit of Pomeranian in their distant past).
Now this post is gonna focus on my two puppies...they are almost 8 years young, and they are so definitely spoiled and hugely loved. They were adopted into our family when they were 8 weeks old, and came from a loving family in Iowa. Their mama hadn't seen them since they were 2 on a visit out here. They were reunited with her and their only living litter mate this past May. Sadly, their mama passed away while we were visiting. It was as if she was at peace.
We do everything with these two precious family additions, and they are more traveled than a lot of people. They have been to Florida, New Jersey, Maine, New,York, several times, as well as North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maryland and several other states for shorter visits.
Biszmark is the smaller of the two at about 9 pounds. He had trouble at birth, and was the runt of the litter, so he was an easy pick. Musket (named for the 3 Musketeers-AKA Sarah, Zach, Ben) is the largest of the litter weighing in at a whopping 17 pounds. They love the sun and the windows and are very protective of their turf (no cats, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, possum, or skunk) The latter being the motive for this blog.
We have some woods across the street from us that seems to breed skunk. They venture out at night and usually wander from yard to yard scrounging.
***********************On a side note************************
I do not smell skunk. I never have. A skunk can spray at my car as I drive over it, and...nothing....
Tonight, Musket got sprayed directly in the face for the very first time. He came running in the house, where he was caught by Dan and promptly led to the bathroom. I followed to do the bathing. Now something actually smelled a bit off to me, but I guess it was really bad...as the rest of my family was running around with their noses covered and gagging...literally!
Bathing both dogs in a wonderful solution of which I intend to share produced amazing results. They both smell great now, not that I noticed anything, but great all the same.
For future reference, and so that no one else has to deal with what is presumably the worst smell ever, let me share the shampooing remedy.
2 C peroxide
1/4 C Baking Soda
2t Dawn Dish Soap
Here you will see them after their baths...
As you can see they are quite traumatized. It never ceases to amaze me how sweet and precious each one of these family members are. I am grateful for their companionship and devotion.
So..we sprinkled Resolve powder on the carpet last night and brushed it in good...left it sit overnight...and this morning we vacuumed...good thing we only have carpeting in the living room and mud room since the vacuum cleaner died after we did the living room. What a sight to see us down on our knees vacuuming the mudroom with the tiny Dirt Devil. Mopped all the hardwood and the ceramic tile...friends came over and said the smell is faint...This humidity isn't going to help at all.....
ReplyDeleteOH MY WORD! I can't smell skunk either! I have never met another person like me!!! I always thought I was a freak of nature! Jay thinks it's bizarre. I mistake rot for skunk all the time when we drive over road kill. I have a keen sense of smell for everything else though! LOL! I love this post! We are forever bonded now! hahaha
